Viera Bobelová

I was only 36 years old when I realized that something was happening to me. Besides my three children, I loved every kind of sport. It was while cycling that I noticed I was losing stability and strength. A long struggle began to prove that something was wrong with me. Neither the doctors nor my loved ones believed me. I figured out myself that I had Parkinson’s disease.

For two years, I went from door to door, but in vain. Eventually, I went to Zvolen to see Dr. Nečasová. She told me that it was probably Parkinson’s disease, but that I needed to undergo a brain examination to confirm or rule it out. I underwent the examination, and within a week they called me to say that it was advanced Parkinson’s disease.

Accepting it was not easy, but I told myself that this was my destiny. And I would not give up. I entered the Guinness World Records

and even broke a record. Table tennis is what helps me stay strong and focused. I believe that laughter can become a miracle and perhaps the best medicine for all of us.
